SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — Another childcare option is on the way for Siouxland families with a new early learning development center.

On Friday, the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA had a groundbreaking ceremony for its new learning development center. Many community supporters, volunteers, and city officials attended the event and raised awareness of the need for more childcare in the community.

Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA CEO Rhonda Robson said that the funding for this project will make a huge impact.

“[There’s a] $1.7 million gap that we have right now, that we are trying to fill,” Robson said. “We still need investors to complete this project. The Y is taking a loan that is a short-term loan to bridge that gap so that we can get it started now, because the need is so important for us.”

The new facility is scheduled to open to the community in the summer of 2025.
