    Three vehicles involved in construction zone crash, Sioux County Sheriff says

    BOYDEN, Iowa ( KCAU ) — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office responded to a three-vehicle accident on Friday that occurred in a construction zone on Highway 18, one mile east of Boyden.

    According to a release , the incident occurred at 6:34 p.m. when three vehicles were traveling west on Highway 18.

    The first vehicle, a 2014 Kia Optima, stopped for a stop sign in a road construction zone and waited for a pilot car. The second vehicle, a 2014 Ford Explorer, stopped behind the Kia. The third vehicle, a 2017 Ford Explorer, allegedly failed to stop and struck the 2014 Ford, pushing the vehicle into the Kia ahead of them.

    Damage to the Kia was estimated at $5,000, $8,000 for the 2014 Ford, and $12,000 for the 2017 Ford, according to the release.

    The release noted that minor injuries were reported, and all parties declined medical attention. The driver of the 2017 Ford was cited for failing to stop at an assured, clear distance.
