    2 killed, 1 seriously injured in Plymouth County crash involving private ambulance

    CRAIG, Iowa (KCAU) — Two people are dead after a Saturday night crash in rural Plymouth County.

    The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of C12 and K22 about three miles west of Craig, according to the Iowa State Patrol’s crash report .

    Julio Cesar Pena, 43, of Le Mars was driving a 2000 Chevrolet 1500 east on C12. The reports stated that Pena failed to stop at the intersection and was hit by a private ambulance going south on K22.

    Officials said the private ambulance was transporting a patient, Ernest Petty, 94, of Elk Point S.D., in a non-emergency status.

    Pena and Petty died at the scene. The ambulance driver suffered minor injuries, while a medic suffered serious injuries. Both were taken to a local hospital.
