SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU)– A large explosion is expected to go off early Monday morning in North Sioux City. Sioux City police are reminding residents to stay away from the area.

In late June, the rail bridge going over the Big Sioux River between North Sioux City and Sioux City collapsed. To begin the removal of the bridge, BNSF will conduct a controlled blast around 9 a.m.

Sioux City police say people who travel across the Military Road bridge may have to go the long way to work.

“It’s going to be about 45 minutes. We’re going to shut those roads down. We’re going to open them up as soon as we can. Hopefully everything goes as planned and they start that demolition at 9 a.m. and it shouldn’t take but five or ten minutes,” said Sergeant Thomas Gill with the Sioux City Police Department.

The Military Road bridge is expected to open back up to the public around 9:15 a.m.
