    Some Siouxland Disaster Recovery Centers to close permanently

    DES MOINES, Iowa (KCAU) — Some Disaster Recovery Centers in Siouxland will be closing permanently in the coming weeks.

    According to a joint release from the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and FEMA, the Disaster Recovery Centers in Cherokee, Emmet, and O’Brien counties will be closing soon.

    The Disaster Recovery Center located at the Cherokee County Emergency Management building in Cherokee and the Disaster Recovery Center located in Emmet County at St. Patrick’s Church’s gym in Estherville are scheduled to close on August 28 at 6 p.m.

    The Disaster Recovery Center in O’Brien County at the Sheldon Community Services Center in Sheldon is scheduled to close on August 30 at 6 p.m.

    Despite the upcoming closure of these Disaster Recovery Centers, centers will still be open in a few Siouxland towns. If you still need support from a Disaster Recovery Center, you can find them at the following locations:

    • Buena Vista County at the Sioux Rapids Municipal Pool in Sioux Rapids
    • Clay County at the Spencer City Hall Council Chambers in Spencer
    • Dickinson County at the Dickinson County Expo Building Meeting Room in Spirit Lake
    • Lyon County at Forster Community Center in Rock Rapids
    • Palo Alto County at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg
    • Sioux County at City Park Shelter House in Rock Valley

    Additionally, support from FEMA is still available. You can begin the process of receiving help from FEMA by calling them at 800-621-3362, visiting their website , or downloading their app . The deadline to apply for FEMA in the State of Iowa is currently October 22 .
