SIOUX CITY, Iowa ( KCAU ) — Secretary of State Paul Pate is reminding Iowans that it’s time to check voter registration status, find a polling place, and request an absentee ballot as the November election approaches.

According to a release, Iowans may start requesting ballots on August 27 for the 2024 general election. Absentee ballots will be sent out starting on October 16.

Additionally, October 16 also marks the beginning of in-person absentee voting. Voters need to have their absentee ballot returned to their county auditor’s office by the time polls close at 8 p.m. on election day.

“There are a number of ways for Iowans to make their voices heard by voting, and planning ahead is key to successfully casting a ballot,” Pate said. “Whether you choose to vote by mail, vote absentee in person at your county auditor’s office, or vote in person on election day, now is the time to prepare. Iowans can rest assured that when they cast their vote in the general election, we will ensure it is counted accurately and fairly.”
