SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU)– The sound of music echoed through the Betty Strong Encounter Center this afternoon, as a local fiddler took center stage.

Bill Peterson has been playing the fiddle for many years now and travels across the pond frequently to countries like Norway, Sweden, and most recently Ireland to learn more about the different kinds of fiddle music. Peterson shared what he learned overseas by playing his instrument and explaining the different variations of the music from culture to culture.

Peterson says he loves sharing his passion and hopefully inspiring the next generation.

“It’s something you don’t want to see die. Even though people don’t hear it a lot in commercial radio and stuff, it’s  out there and it’s like a lot of things. Different, different hobbies people have. Whether they’re Civil War reenactors or they’re, you know, bikers or whatever they are, they get into their own little culture and the fiddling, it’s kind of the same way,” said Peterson.

If you were unable to attend Sunday’s fiddle concert, Peterson says he frequents the Betty Strong Encounter Center so folks can expect him back on stage in the near future.
