SIOUX CITY, Iowa ( KCAU ) — Absentee voting in South Dakota begins on Sep. 20, and there are a few steps that voters will need to take to ensure their voice is heard in the 2024 general election.

The first step to absentee voting is to ensure that you are registered to vote. The last day to register to vote is on Oct. 21. Use this link to confirm your registration.

Voters can apply for an absentee ballot in-person or by using this link to download and print an absentee ballot application. Voters should then mail their application to their respective county’s election official.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Nov. 4 at 5 p.m., which is the day before the election. Completed absentee ballots must be delivered to the county auditor in time for them to be delivered to the correct polling location by the time polls close at 7 p.m.
