WAYNE, Neb. (KCAU) – It’s Thursday night lights for Wayne State as the Wildcats are set to open the season at home against Missouri S&T, beginning the year against a non-NSIC opponent for the first time since 2011.

Wayne State, who was picked fourth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll, return 18 starters. Quarterback Nick Bohn finished second in the conference with 259.7 yards per game last season.

Taking a look at the recent history of the Wildcats in season openers, they’ve won its last three. Against Missouri S&T, four of the last five meetings have been decided by five points or less.

A pair of late season losses kept the ‘Cats out of the playoffs last season, providing plenty of takeaways heading into the offseason.

“Last year was a good year at 8-3, but we still very rarely put together four quarters. One game slipped away from us, and ultimately kept us out of the postseason. Everything we do, we have got to be more consistent and doing it every play, every drive, and every quarter. Put together good halves and a good game. That’s kind of been our mindset from January until now.” Wayne State head coach Logan Masters said.
