ROCK VALLEY, Iowa (KCAU) — It was announced Thursday that the Rock Valley Community School District will start Sep. 5, meaning it’s time for teachers to start preparing their temporary classrooms.

The district has received more than a thousand donations in books, school supplies, and classroom decorations from around the country.

“The fact that other teachers have reached out and been so graciously willing to say ‘hey, I’ve retired, would you like all this stuff,’ and they’ve been honestly giving it to us free of charge, and in their own hearts been knowing that we have all these needs and they’ve come to our rescuem is awesome,” Rock Valley High School principal Nicole Roder said.

The district is currently keeping the donations in their bus barn, and has opened it up for teachers and the surrounding community to take what they need to supply their classrooms.

“These teachers are speechless, they don’t know what to say,” Roder said. “We opened it up to them yesterday morning to go out there and get things, and they just came back with loads and loads of wonderful things for their classroom.”

The Rock Valley bus barn will be open for people to take donations until the start of school on Sep. 5.
