SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A retirement celebration was held for the outgoing fire chief of Sioux City Fire Rescue.

Everett said he’s grateful and proud of what he has done at the fire department. He added that he felt ready to retire. Everett said he hopes he left Sioux City Fire Rescue better than when he came in.

“I think that it’s the people around you, you know, obviously are the biggest part of that, but I like to think that I had something to do with the whole department moving in the right direction over the years,” Everett said. “We certainly as a department have done a lot of very great things… that I’m proud to be a part of. “

He plans to use his retirement to visit family and keep busy.

The new fire chief Ryan Collins was officially pinned during the Sioux City city council meeting on Monday.
