A new report finds some of the city's water fountains are still not working.

In June, it was discovered that most of the fountains had not yet been turned on due to a shortage of city plumbers.

Over the past week, inspectors from the City Controller’s office visited a sample of 20 water fountains across the city.

Of the 20 fountains they tested, inspectors found 13 were operational, and 7 remain off.

In a statement, Heisler says the city has clearly made progress in turning on the water, but their inspections suggest the job is not yet done.

“The City has clearly made progress in turning on the water fountains, but it’s already August and our inspections suggest the job is not yet done,” Heisler. “That’s disappointing and, considering the extreme heat we’ve experienced this summer, it’s dangerous. This was an avoidable problem, and I hope the administration is taking all the steps available to them to finish the job in the short term and to make sure this doesn’t happen again next year.”
