KEANSBURG, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A Monmouth County man died two weeks after police tased and shot him as he came at them with a chainsaw, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office said Tuesday.

Willem Roman, 46, died June 14 following the May 27 police-involved shooting at his home in Keansburg.

The A.G.'s Office is investigating the deadly shooting, which is standard protocol for shootings involving law enforcement in the state.

According to prosecutors, Keansburg police responded to Roman's home on Seabreeze Way for a welfare check just after 1 p.m. that day. When they entered the home, they encountered Roman, who "possessed numerous weapons and a running chainsaw."

As Roman "approached officers with the running chainsaw," one officer deployed a taser while another fired his service weapon, striking Roman, prosecutors said.

Officers and EMS rendered medical aid to him, and he was transported in critical but stable condition to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

No other injuries were reported in the confrontation.
