WHITESTOWN, INDIANA (KELO) — The Sioux Falls little league team will play for a spot in the Little League World Series on Friday, following a 3-0 extra inning win over Iowa Thursday.

The final elimination game of the Midwest Regional was a pitcher’s duel throughout.

South Dakota’s Ryan Henry was dominant, allowing zero runs on just two hits in 5.2 innings. He also struck out nine.

However, Iowa’s Cole Everhart was just as strong. He threw six innings and allowed just one run.

Neither team was able to score through the six regulation innings.

In the seventh, Sioux Falls finally got the offense going. Two walks and a single loaded the bases.

Henry would then earn an RBI hit by pitch to take the lead. A batter later, Luke Fenton served a double to left field to bring in two runs.

Those three runs were enough for Griffin Sommer who claimed the win in relief, throwing 1.1 innings and allowing no runs.

South Dakota will now play at 6 p.m. on Friday in the Midwest Regional Championship. They’ll meet Missouri who they lost to already.

The winner will advance to the Little League World Series, which begins Wednesday, August 14.

Note the time change from noon to 6:00, due to weather related issues.
