VERMILLION, S.D. (USD) — The Coyotes scored two goals in the final 16 minutes to earn a 3-2 victory over the Drake Bulldogs Thursday afternoon at the First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.

Much like Sunday, the weather played an effect on the match, but instead of sweltering heat, it was an hour rain delay to begin the match. The 3 p.m. start became a 4 p.m. kickoff, and the rain persisted throughout the match.

Each side punched a shot into the goal in the opening half. Mady Za scored the first goal of the match in the 24 th minute on a header off a rebound on a previous shot attempt. Drake evened the score in the 42 nd minute to make it 1-1 at the intermission. It took less than 10 minutes for Drake to put itself ahead, scoring a goal in the 53 rd minute to make it 2-1.

It took nearly 20 minutes for the Coyotes to score the equalizer, and it was Izzy Quintavalle putting a shot in the back of the net to score her second goal of the season off a pass from Brooklyn Bordson. The Coyotes got the game-winning opportunity on a handball from the Bulldogs inside the penalty box. Ashby Johnston had a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie and didn’t miss her chance.

Ashby Johnston totaled four shots, two on goal. Cambell Fischer and Margot Mulhern split time in goal, with both players seeing 45 minutes of action.

Three different Coyotes scored goals in the victory as the Coyotes moved to 5-0-1 in their last six matches with the Bulldogs and moved to 2-1-1 on the season. The victory is Michael Thomas’ 49 th victory as the leader of the Coyotes, tying him with Jessica Maddox (2000-2004) for the most in program history.

The Coyotes shift their attention to a Big 12 Conference foe in Kansas State on Sunday. The Coyotes and Wildcats face off in Manhattan, Kansas Sunday at 1 p.m.
