KENILWORTH, NJ - Newly appointed Chief of Police Paul Campanelli took an oath of office at the most recent council meeting on Wednesday, July 17, to become the leader of the department after the Town Council unanimously approved a resolution appointing him chief.
Campanelli is the successor of former Chief Fred Soos, who retired effective June 28, 2024, after leading the KPD for more than seven and a half years. A lifelong Kenilworth resident, Campanelli who has worked in law enforcement for over 26 years was sworn in by Mayor Linda Karlovitch next to his family.
Chief Campanelli graduated from David Brearley High School in 1993. Stated by the Kenilworth Police Department, "Upon graduation, Chief Campanelli enlisted in the United States Army where he was a Combat Engineer for several years. In July of 1998, Chief Campanelli was hired as a Kenilworth Police Officer and he has steadily risen from the ranks of Patrol Officer serving as a Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain prior to his appointment as Chief. Chief Campanelli is deeply invested into the Borough of Kenilworth as a resident, business owner, and parent of two children."
“I am honored to be appointed the new Chief of Police.” said Campanelli. “And I look forward to serving the Borough of Kenilworth as I have done for the last twenty-six years. My door is always open, feel free to stop by and see me.”
