Police are releasing details of a pair of arrests they say prevented New Orleans teens from continuing crimes in Kenner.

The investigation started when license plate reader cameras alerted on a stolen car near I-10 and Williams Blvd.

"Units flooded the area and located the vehicle in a parking lot in the 3200 block of Williams," Capt. Michael Cunningham said in a news release.

He says responding officers found the stolen car nearby.  A cop watched as the driver got out and went to talk to the driver of an Alpha Romeo sports car.

"Back-up units arrived and both subjects were detained without incident."

Cunningham says both the Alpha Romeo and the Nissan were confirmed stolen out of New Orleans.

They arrested the 16-year-old and 17-year-old drivers, both from New Orleans.

"An inventory search of the Nissan discovered illegal narcotics and a 9mm handgun. When KPD reported the vehicle as recovered, it was discovered the vehicle may have been involved in an armed robbery in New Orleans."

Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley commended the "swift and deliberate actions" of the officers.

"There is no doubt in my mind they were going to continue their criminal activity in our city," the chief said of the suspects.
