WALLA WALLA CO., Wash. -- A GoFundMe has been set up by Daniel Zarate after he died in a crash on HWY12.

In the GoFundMe, Zarate's family said donations will be going towards funeral and memorial expenses.

"He loved his friends and family genuinely as we did him," Chalissa Gazca, Zarate's aunt, wrote on GoFundMe. "He was always there for everyone and was one of the humblest people I ever met. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, and a friend to many people."

    Original Coverage:

A Kennewick man has been identified as the person who died in a head-on crash in Walla Walla County Thursday.

It happened just before 5 p.m. about 19 miles west of Walla Walla.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Daniel Zarate, 25, was driving westbound on US 12 when he drove off the road. WSP Troopers said it appeared Zarate overcorrected, then ended up in the eastbound lane and hit another vehicle head-on.

The driver of that vehicle, a 37-year-old man from Burbank, was hurt and taken to the hospital. His current condition is not known at this time.

    Zarate died at the scene.

The Washington State Patrol said what led up to the crash is still under investigation.
