You could be in beloved Eric Herman ‘mockumentary’ in Tri-Cities. Kids, families wanted

Tri-Cities area kids and families can be part of a “mockumentary” — a mock documentary film — with some footage being recorded at a Mid-Columbia Libraries performance Aug. 1.

Eric Herman and The Puppy Dogs will perform interactive songs at six events: 10 a.m. July 30 at the Basin City Library; 6 p.m. July 30 at Kiwanis Park in Othello; 10 a.m. July 31 at the West Pasco Library; 6 p.m. July 31 at the Prosser City Park; 10 a.m. Aug. 1 at the Kennewick Library and 11:30 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Kennewick Library.

But the 10 a.m. Aug. 1 show at the Kennewick Library, 1620 Union St. , is the only one with filming for “Eric Herman and the Invisible Band.”

Kids and families will be invited to do brief personal interviews, answering questions such as, “What is your favorite Eric Herman song?”

The film is in the spirit of the cult-classic mockumentary, “This is Spinal Tap,” about a British heavy metal band’s ill-fated tour through American.

But this film will be based on Herman’s “Googly Eyes,” and free googly eyes will be give out to all kids at the Aug. 1 performance.

The independent project has a budget of $30,000 and the film will star actors from the greater Tri-Cities and Walla Walla areas. It’s intended to appeal to adults, but will be appropriate for children’s viewing.

Herman, who wrote the film with Prosser’s Cliff Gamble, has been performing music for kids full-time since moving to the Tri-Cities area in 2004.

He is best known for his animated music videos that have more than 100 million views, starting with his 2007 video “Elephant Song.” His songs and videos have appeared on PBS Kids, The Today Show and the Warner Bros. film “Life as We Know It.”
