Astros' Framber Valdez and Bryan Abreu lose no-hit bid in 8th on single by K.C.'s Isbel
HOUSTON (AP) — Houston’s Framber Valdez and Bryan Abreu lost their no-hit bid with two outs in the eighth inning Friday night on a single by Kansas City pinch-hitter Kyle Isbel. Valdez was pulled after throwing 98 pitches in seven innings. He threw 60 for strikes, with seven strikeouts, three walks and a hit batter. Abreu took over to start the eighth and Michael Massey was retired on a fly ball before pinch-hitter MJ Melendez grounded out. Isbel then grounded his single to left field to give the Royals their first hit. The 30-year-old Valdez threw a no-hitter against the Cleveland Guardians on Aug. 1, 2023. He nearly had a second one earlier this month before Corey Seager homered with two outs in the ninth inning of a 4-2 win over Texas on Aug. 6.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A surface trough near the Texas Coast is bringing disturbed weather in the northern Gulf of Mexico and pushing rain showers inland throughout the day. With the tropical moisture in place, we could see heavy rain, providing a flash flood threat, especially in areas with poor drainage. For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch that will remain in effect until 7 p.m. this evening.
