TOLCHESTER — Kent County 4-H Fair season’s here once again. If you didn’t already know that judging by the heat.

It’s four days of fun, family entertainment, in a rural agricultural setting that couldn’t represent life on the Eastern Shore any more accurately.

Held at the Kent Ag Center at 21349 Tolchester Beach Road, Chestertown, as always, the fair features livestock, pigs, bunnies, horses, tractors, crab cakes, music entertainment and good comradeship from neighbors.

New this year is a Pickle Eating Contest on Friday. It’s a “big dill” as Chloe Massey hosts the first ever pickle eating contest following the greased pig competition that’s always a fun time.

Also new this year the Power Wheels Demolition Derby, for youth 3-5 years and 6-8 years, on Saturday, 5 p.m.

And bingo is back too, kicking off on Thursday, 10 a.m. at the dining hall, run by the talented Dianne Hill.

And also, not just regular bingo, Cow Plop Bingo too, Saturday near the Main Show Pavilion.

The air will be filled with the smell of manure as well as questions, like what local government official will have to kiss the cow this year? The “steaks,” are high.

Right now, Rock Hall Mayor James Cook is in the lead for not having to do it.

It could be an “udder” catastrophe.

The Goose and Duck calling contest is back too on Friday. Last year, organizer Jaime Orndorff was impressed by the turnout. She hopes for an even bigger one this year.

The contest will be judged once again by Outfitter Steve Goss and son Zach.

Immediately after that, the National Wild Turkey Federation will conduct their calling competition.

There’s so much to do at the fair, Orndorff encourages everyone to come out and share in the fun.

“Come to the Fair, where the youth unite our local community,” Orndorff said. “There’s something for everyone!”
