WORTON — On Friday, Kent County High School’s Brigade of Blue finished up their two-week long band camp by performing two numbers: "Copacabana" by Barry Manilow and "September," by Earth, Wind and Fire.

Led by Band Director Jodi Bortz, the marching band invited family and friends to take a trip to the 70’s with their theme, “Platforms and Polyesters.”

It was definitely not a stretch to say they performed well on both numbers, and after that they gathered in the school for their annual “Turning Blue to Gold,” ceremony. Students were honored individually, given ribbons to put on their uniforms. The ribbons indicate what musical skill they’ve acquired.

Bortz said, "Congratulations to all of our students for making it through Band Camp! I am proud of how hard everyone worked to learn to march and build the show that we will eventually perform at our home football games and in competition."

Leading the color guard this year, Mirelle Kraus invited the public to attend the homecoming football game, September 13, against Arcadia High School.

Kraus was proud of how the squad performed on Friday and looking forward to the fall events.
