Kent Police are reporting that a 29-year-old Kent man was arrested on Monday, June 10, 2024, after intentionally crashing into a police car while attempting to flee in a stolen vehicle.

A Kent Patrol Officer was on routine patrol when he spotted the stolen car on Kent-Kangley Road. The suspect, attempting to evade capture, quickly dodged into a parking lot.

The Officer, undeterred, parked his fully lit police vehicle behind the stolen car and initiated a high-risk stop, calling for backup and deploying a tire deflation device. Despite this, the suspect tried to escape, aggressively backing out of the parking spot and ramming the police car and another vehicle. He then drove in reverse with one deflated tire, narrowly missing a pedestrian before exiting onto the roadway.

Multiple Kent officers responded as a homeowner called 911 to report the stolen vehicle had crashed into his yard. The three suspects in the car fled on foot. Officers established a perimeter and called for a K9 unit.

King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian 1 helicopter was in the area and quickly located the suspects in a wooded area near the YMCA. The two passengers, women aged 32 and 33 from SeaTac and Federal Way, surrendered after officers’ announcements. The driver continued to flee, jumping fences before eventually giving up due to the tight police perimeter and the helicopter’s presence.

The suspect was arrested without further incident and booked into King County Jail on multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, hit and run (attended and unattended), malicious mischief, felony eluding, reckless driving, and vehicular assault. The two women were charged with obstructing.

The suspect remarked to the arresting officer that he typically flees in stolen vehicles because he believes no one will chase him.

The Officer, though shaken, was unharmed, though his vehicle sustained significant damage.
