MC Salvation Army Offers Class to ‘Get Ahead’
12-week ‘Bridges Out of Poverty: Getting Ahead’ class to start August 14. The Salvation Army of Michigan City will launch another 12-week session of “Bridges Out of Poverty: Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin’ By World” beginning on Wednesday, August 14. Classes will take place every Wednesday at The Salvation Army, 1201 Franklin Street, at 5:00 pm. This will be the sixth series of Bridges hosted by The Salvation Army, a program that Major Becky Simmons feels is needed in the Michigan City community as a way of helping residents identify and overcome barriers.
East Chicago ends sanctuary city law after Rokita files suit
(The Center Square) – A northwestern Indiana city is now following state law banning sanctuary city policies and no longer facing a lawsuit from Attorney General Todd Rokita. On Tuesday, Rokita announced his office has voluntarily withdrawn its lawsuit against East Chicago after officials there last week repealed the city’s “Welcoming City Ordinance.” The 2017 city law prohibited its agencies and employees from investigating an individual’s citizenship or immigration status or aiding another office’s inquiry into one without a court order. ...

Tornado Damage or Not? Evansville Area Will Find Out Soon
Many Hoosiers in Gibson,Vanderburgh, and Warrick counties are reporting down trees and power lines from Tuesday’s severe weather. The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky is unable to say if the damage was caused by a tornado. They plan to survey that part of the state into today to analyze the damage. Child on bike hit by SUV near Chain O'Lakes northwest of Chicago
PISTAKEE HIGHLANDS, Ill. (CBS) -- A child was in the hospital Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a sport-utility vehicle while riding an electric bike in McHenry County.The Razor MX350 dirt bike was seen lying in the street in the 5200 block of Lake Street, near Pleasant View Drive, in the unincorporated census-designated place of Pistakee Highlands along the Chain O'Lakes.The extent of the child's injuries was not immediately learned, but the child had to be taken to the hospital in a medical helicopter.The driver of the SUV that hit the child did stop.Further details were not immediately available.Razor electric dirt bikes like the one the child was riding are rated for kids 8 and over, and can travel up to 14 mph.
