Joseph Jefferson II logged a lot of special teams play as a redshirt freshman in 2023 but looks to see the field more as a defensive back in his sophomore campaign. Appearing in 11 games last year is a pretty good start. Jefferson tallied several special teams tackles in 2023 (including two against the red guys from Bloomington) after having appeared in just one game as a true freshman, allowing him to keep an extra year of collegiate eligibility.

Mye’Joi Williams returns to Rantoul, honored with parade
There have been a handful of great athletes come from Rantoul, Illinois. In 20 years, maybe less, Mye’Joi Williams will be among them. The former Rantoul Township High School shot put and discus thrower now entering her senior year at the University of Alabama, returned home on Friday, July 26, and was celebrated with a short parade that ended in downtown Rantoul, where the Freedom Fridays Celebration was taking place. The parade started near the high school, the site of many of Williams’ prep triumphs, at the corner of Chanute and Sangamon before ending downtown.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. ― Aspen Taylor saw someone in a silver sedan shoot Jermey Dumas late Aug. 31, 2021, and she stopped to help as the shooter sped away. Centier Bank opens second branch in Indianapolis this year
Merrillville, Ind.-based Centier Bank recently opened its newest Indianapolis-area branch. Branch Manager Carin Sassatelli joined Centier executives in welcoming members of the Indianapolis community during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The celebration also included a $5,000 donation to First Baptist Athletics, a neighboring organization that offers Indianapolis families youth sports programs with an educational emphasis on athletics and respect.

Patrick Rea, a retired Army general who served the residents of Tinley Park nearly five decades, has died. He was also a well-known figure in Tinley Park, where he became a commissioner in 1968, a village trustee in 1971 and a clerk in 2009.
Man injured in early morning stabbing
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Lafayette Police Department are on the hunt for a suspect in an early morning stabbing on the city's south side. Police responded to a report of a stabbing around 2:00 Tuesday morning at Brampton Apartments. Officers on scene found one man with minor injuries.

Traffic Stop On East Side Of Joliet Was Blocked By Law Enforcement This Morning
Will County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over a car near Jackson and Youngs Avenue this morning in Joliet. A male and female ran from their car. Joliet Police officers assisted by setting up a perimiter as they searched for the two. Then JPD receive a call that a gun was located in the back of residence in the 300 block of Parks believed to be related to the traffic stop. The two individuals were taken into custody.
