PALESTINE, Texas ( KETK ) – Palestine ISD teachers and students were back in class on Friday excited for the school year.

The district said staff started back on Monday to train and had their convocation. A few days later students joined.

“We talked to our principals this morning and it seems like most people got there on time, and still have new students coming in. So, it’s been a really good first day,” Palestine ISD superintendent Jason Marshall said.

Marshall also said they are pushing a reading initiative this school year.

“At the secondary level we have some really great career and technology programs,” Marshall said.

Currently, there are in the process of brining in the international baccalaureate program to Palestine High School.

“We are completing a facilities study for this year and kind of setting us up for about 2025 to about 2030,” Marshall said. “So, from a district standpoint we are doing a lot of planning.”

Marshall’s advice to students is that they set aside time each day to study in order to stay on top of their grades.

“I’m excited about everything like growing my kids making them wonderful productive citizens in our community and I just love teaching,” Amy McGuire, Palestine High School teacher, said.  “We’re ready to rock this school year 24-25 Go Cats.”
