LONGVIEW, Texas ( KETK ) — Wednesday morning, Pine Tree ISD students headed back to campus for the 2024-25 school year.

“First day of school kicking off the ’24-’25 school year, can’t believe I am saying that,” Steve Clugston, Pine Tree ISD Superintendent, said.

For students and staff alike, there are no other days like the first and many were excited to see each other after summer break.

“It’s a great day to be a pirate,” Ben Worsham, a Parkway Elementary 2nd grade student, said.

Clugston shared how faculty is ready to lead students to success.

“We work in tandem. We’re an extension of the family, if we do a really good job here and you’re doing a really good job the odds of your kid being successful are that guaranteed,” Clugston said.

For the pirates, this year’s theme is: building rockstars and changing lives.

“That rockstar puts on a great show so if that rockstar puts on a top-notch quality show every day in the classroom, then our kids are benefitting from that,” Clugston said.

Staff aren’t the only ones aiming for excellence, students are looking to succeed in major ways too.

Lack of funding could cause small East Texas Christian school to shut down

“My big goal this year is to get a bunch of A’s,” Worsham said.

Pine Tree ISD is going to make sure that their students are equipped to meet their goals.

“Make sure that we get kids to the level they need to be at to have the habits that they have to have to go out into this world and make it a better place,” Clugston said.

Those first-day feelings of excitement hope to last throughout the whole year.

“Parkway– what we do here is we learn, we show respect, and we work hard,” Worsham said.
