Gilmer enters stage 2 water shortage

GILMER, Texas ( KETK ) – Gilmer officially entered into a stage two water shortage on Thursday, and released new water conservation guidelines for the public to follow.

According to a release, the mayor of Gilmer ordered for the city to enter the stage two shortage on Thursday along with the following requirements:

Irrigation of landscaped areas with “hose-end sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems” is limited to Sundays or Thursdays for residences with an address ending in even numbers and Saturday and Wednesday for addresses ending in odd numbers.

Irrigation of landscaped areas is limited to midnight – 10 a.m. or between 8 p.m. – midnight.

Irrigation is permitted at any time if using a handheld hose, a faucet filled bucket, a watering can of five gallons or less or a drip irrigation system.

Use of water to wash any motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer, airplane or other vehicle is prohibited except on designated water days during the previously listed hours. Washing of vehicles also must be done with a hand held bucket or hand held hose with a “positive shutoff nozzle.”

There are exceptions for vehicle washing to be done on the premises of commercial car washes and commercial service stations and washing may be exempt for vehicles such as garbage trucks and vehicles used to transport food or other perishables.

Use of water to fill, refill or add to any indoor or outdoor swimming pools, wading pools or jacuzzi-type pools is prohibited except on assigned water days during the approved watering times.

All restaurants are prohibited from serving water to patrons unless it is requested.
