    Long Beach Bar Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Injured

    LONG BEACH, Calif., July 9 (KNN) — Gunfire erupted inside a Long Beach bar Monday evening leaving one of the suspects fatally shot, and wounding an armed bar patron along with an innocent victim.

    Long Beach police officers responded to the 4900 block of Long Beach Boulevard shortly after 9 p.m. regarding multiple shots heard fired and at least one person who was shot inside a local business, according to the LBPD in a news release.

    When officers arrived at the location, a male adult was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, reported the LBPD. Officers at the scene rendered aid and attempted lifesaving measures until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and determined the man was deceased at the scene.

    LBPD’s Homicide detectives determined through their initial investigation, that two armed suspects entered the bar to assault a patron. The bar patron was also armed and shots were fired between the two parties.

    One suspect was struck by gunfire and was the man pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified by LBPD as 38-year-old Arthur Rainey III, a resident of the city of Los Angeles. The second suspect involved in the shooting fled the scene before officers arrived at the location.

    The bar patron was struck by gunfire in the lower body and transported to a local hospital, according to the LBPD. An uninvolved victim sustained a minor injury to the upper body and was treated at the scene.

    The investigation is ongoing to determine the motive for the shooting.

    “Detectives believe there were additional witnesses in the area and are encouraging them to come forward,” stated the news release.
