HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating a murder in Keystone.

The investigation began Monday morning after deputies said a neighbor called 911 to report an unresponsive woman inside a home on Crescent Road around 4:45 a.m. Monday.

Deputies said the woman was dead in her home when they arrived. They believe she was in her 60s and lived alone.

However, she had company close by.

The neighborhood on Crescent Road is filled with nice family homes on a lot of land.

The home being investigated is tucked behind several trees, but HCSO said there were multiple structures on the property.

“I would say the living conditions are not ideal,” said Amanda Granit, HCSO Chief Communications Officer. “The structure is under extreme construction. There are parts of it that seem more liveable than other parts of it.”

Neighbors said they weren’t shocked to see such a heavy police presence at the home because of its problematic past.

“Quite frankly all of us around here think that property should have been condemned a long time ago,” said neighbor Steven Nesbitt.

Nesbitt said it’s an eyesore and has a revolving door of people.

News Channel 8 saw detectives talking with neighbors and potential witnesses to find out how the woman was killed.

“No one wants to wake up to police cars on the street of their neighborhood,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our detectives are working diligently to gather all the evidence to bring justice to this victim.”

Detectives said they do not believe that the incident was a random act. They believe they will make an arrest on Monday.
