One person is dead and an investigation is ongoing after a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday, June 18. According to Virginia State Police, this happened at 9:46 a.m. on Route 40 in Charlotte County.

VSP officials say based on their data so far, a 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis was heading westbound on Route 40 when it ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle then overcorrected, crossed the center line and hit a 2015 Ford Mustang that was traveling eastbound.

The driver of the Grand Marquis, 81-year-old Louise C. Walton of Keysville, died at the scene. The driver of the Mustang, 36-year-old Krystal M. Hudson of Keysville, suffered minor injuries. Both women were wearing their seatbelt, VSP officials say.

    The crash remains under investigation.
