ENID, Okla. ( KFOR ) – The family of an Enid man police believe was lured to his own death for information pertaining to a missing woman say they won’t rest until justice is served.

Enid Police found human remains inside a storm cellar at a home last week after getting a tip from an inmate who told them one of the suspects confessed to putting the body there. Police believe the remains are that of Colby Sheppard, who’s been missing for eight months.

Suspects Charles Jordan, Heaven Jordan, Devin Harris and Victor Battelo have been charged with first degree murder in connection the case. Documents say Heaven Jordan, Charles’ daughter, lured Sheppard to her father’s home where he was beaten and killed. The documents further state after interviews with witnesses that Sheppard’s body was wrapped in a tarp, tied up with rope and dumped in the cellar. Suspect Charles Jordan allegedly tried to pay an inmate to move Sheppard’s body for him but the inmate tipped off authorities instead.

“No information was gained by any of the suspects,” said Cass Rains with the Enid Police Department.

Police believe the suspects were trying to get information from Sheppard about the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend, Kendra Battelo, who’s been missing since 2022. Battelo’s family says Sheppard was one of the last people they saw her with before she went missing.

Court records obtained by News 4 describe a domestic incident that happened in June 2022 between Battelo and Sheppard.

An affidavit says an Enid Police officer was dispatched to a hotel in town and when they got there Battelo advised them Sheppard had assaulted her. The affidavit says Battelo showed the officer marks and bruises she had on her body, and had multiple bruises around her neck a bruise on her right forearm and swelling on the right side of her head.

Battelo told the officer Sheppard was being “childish and petty” about coins he claimed were missing and that she knew where they were; starting an argument that led to the assault.

The case was dismissed in February 2023 because Battelo didn’t show up for court, months after her family had already reported her missing. Police say there’s no evidence tying Sheppard to her disappearance.

News 4 received a statement from Sheppard’s family Thursday who say they are heartbroken and outraged. The entire statement makes allegations against individuals connected to the suspects families that have not been formally charged with a crime so News 4 is only including part of it below:

We are heartbroken and outraged by the tragic loss of Colby….His life brutally taken by Victor Battelo, Charles Jordan, Heaven Jordan, Devin Harris…at a residence in Enid, Oklahoma. They showed no mercy or compassion, leaving him to suffer inconceivable pain….We cannot comprehend the level of cruelty and inhumanity that drove them to commit such a heinous crime. We call upon the justice system to hold them accountable for their actions and ensure that they face the consequences they deserve. We will not rest until justice is served for Colby.
