    CHP shares back-to-school safety tips for parents and children

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — It’s the first day back-to-school for most students in Bakersfield.

    Whether you’re getting ready to drive the kids to school or about to send them out the door, these safety tips are important for everyone.

    It seems like everyone is always glued to their devices. Drivers and school children alike.

    CHP officer Tomas Martinez says it’s important to talk to your children about the dangers of using tech like earbuds and other items when walking to or from school.

    “We do recommend students to stick to sidewalks. We have seen kids trying to go in the street with their friends, and especially with the airpods. Those are very distracting. Just like drivers, you can’t have those airpods in your ears in case of emergency,” Martinez said.
