SALMON, Idaho (KIFI) - One of the citizens of Salmon we spoke to about the troubles of the Lemhi County Humane Society wanted to respond to us after hearing the news they let go executive director Tom Magro.

She told us, "We accomplished a very important goal. The Executive Director, for the past 8 or 9 months, is no longer employed by the organization. His temper, lies, bullying and cruelty will no longer be experienced by the employees, volunteers or the animals at the shelter. That is a huge win for everyone.

Now we move on to continue the quest for open meetings so that the community has access to Board members. We don't want their phone numbers or addresses. We want to be able to meet them, as a group, in open meetings to voice concerns and ask questions. We'd like to feel a part of their organization and be welcomed as community members.

In addition we'd like financial transparency. This is expected of a non-profit organization serving the public whether they are a private corporation or not. They receive city and county monies therefore, as taxpayers, we have a right to their financials.

Thank you again to the shelter employees for the work you do for the animals and the community. Thank you to the volunteers who walk dogs, help at the shelter, assist at fundraisers, work at Rags & Wags and share with positive attitudes.  That includes the Board members, who give their time. May the Board realize that we, the community, want to be your partners in this work, not detractors. We can do more working together than we will do if we are divided."
