Marshall Public Library’s “Garden to Give” is back

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - “Garden to Give” is back again this year, and Marshall Public Library (MPL) is teaming up with the Idaho Foodbank to help get excess produce from your garden to the food bank.

The library will accept donations of locally grown fresh produce including herbs and transport it to the food bank. Since starting Garden to Give in 2019, MPL has collected several hundred pounds each year for the food bank where it will reach the people in our community who need it the most.

“This program is great for gardeners of all levels who want to give. It doesn’t have to be a lot, and every bit helps someone in need,” said Public Services Supervisor Amy Campbell with the Marshall Public Library. “Some community members even plant extra on purpose just to donate so we wanted to get the word out early that we are collecting donations again this year.”

The recent cold weather may mean Pocatello’s growing season will be shorter than usual, but the soon-to-come sunshine will ensure that it is as bountiful as ever. Many local gardeners are so adept at getting the most out of the few optimal gardening months that they often grow more than they can eat or share with friends and neighbors. If that sounds like you, MPL can help you get your garden overflow to the Idaho Food Bank.

MPL will collect the fresh produce from July through October.
