2024 Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp Stats: First Four Practices
As we always do on off days, we’re going back through our notebook to tabulate our daily log and compile Pittsburgh Steelers training camp stats. Of course, these should be viewed as a sliver of our evaluation and they’re better to use relatively, this camp to previous ones, to take anything meaningful from. It’s nice to have an objective data point to combine with the eye test and give us the clearest evaluation of camp possible.
NLRB champions workers' rights, union power in PA
This month, a Pittsburgh nonprofit working with immigrants was fined almost $200,000 for unfair labor practices. It is one of a growing number of cases decided by the National Labor Relations Board. The NLRB found the organization Hello Neighbor denied pay increases and let workers go for their union support.
Fun in the sun at Hampton’s latest Pints in the Park
On the heels of a series of successful 2023 events, Hampton Township launched another year of Pints in the Park this May. The weather was, to borrow a description, frightful. And besides for some youngsters having fun in the rain, it was none too delightful. Fast-forward a couple of months,...
Mets trade away homegrown veteran reliever
The Mets are trading Josh Walker to the Pittsburgh Pirates, as first reported by Fansided’s Robert Murray. The left-hander was recently designated for assignment after appearing in just 10 games for the Mets, putting up a 5.11 ERA with 11 strikeouts and six walks in 12 1/3 innings of work.
QB Nate Yarnell can't do it alone, so here are 5 units that need to step up for Pitt this season
Jul. 29—Before compiling a list of the most important players who will populate the Beano Cook Fields when Pitt begins prepping for a new season Wednesday, we need to first identify the obvious choice for leader of the class: The quarterback, Nate Yarnell. There are several players who are as important as Yarnell, who is entering his junior season. (Has it been two years already?) But no one ...
Who Is Quinn Priester, Pitcher Red Sox Acquired In Trade With Pirates?
The Boston Red Sox added to their pitching reservoir Monday, acquiring right-hander Quinn Priester from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for prospect Nick Yorke. Priester’s major league numbers jump off the page — for all the wrong reasons — but he still joins the Red Sox organization with a ton of upside. The deal has the potential to benefit Boston in the short term and the long term, provided the Red Sox are able to tap into the 23-year-old’s talent and work with him to achieve some consistency.
‘Nothing Better Than Beating Pittsburgh In Pittsburgh’: LB Matthew Judon Loves Playing At Acrisure
Veteran linebacker Matthew Judon has played in nearly every NFL stadium. But aside from his current home at the New England Patriots’ Gillette Stadium, Judon loves seeing “Acrisure Stadium” pop up on his calendar. Joining the Shut Up Marc Podcast in an episode released Monday, Judon says he takes special pride in making Steelers’ fans cry.
Former Michigan WR Roman Wilson carted off at Steelers training camp
Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect Roman Wilson did not return to Steelers' training camp. Tuesday marked the first day of pads for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Unfortunately...
The Toronto Blue Jays nailed the Yusei Kikuchi trade return from the Houston Astros
The Toronto Blue Jays have dealt their biggest trade asset at the deadline, sending left-hander Yusei Kikuchi to the Houston Astros in exchange for right-hander Jake Bloss, outfielder Joey Loperdifo, and infield prospect Will Wagner. This move is just the latest in a flurry of activity by the Jays’ front office. The club has also traded other expiring contracts over the past few days, including RHP Yimi Garcia, 1B/DH Justin Turner, catcher Danny Jansen, and RHP Nate Pearson (the only one with control beyond this offseason), as the team looks to reset for the 2025 season. Given the disdain for Ross Atkins...
Roman Wilson Injured, Leaves Practice On A Cart
UPDATE: Per Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Wilson injured his ankle but Mike Tomlin said there’s no further update. Pittsburgh Steelers WR Roman Wilson suffered an apparent lower-body injury during Pittsburgh’s training camp practice on Tuesday, their first padded practice. Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Wilson was “shaken up” and went down awkwardly following a play in seven shots.
Pirates' phenom Paul Skenes notches 100th strikeout in just 13 MLB starts
Paul Skenes' already amazing season continues to become even more impressive. The Pittsburgh Pirates rookie – and All-Star Game starter for the National League – tallied the 100th strikeout of his nascent major league career in Monday's matchup with the Houston Astros. The milestone whiff occurred in the second inning with Skenes whiffing Jon Singleton on an 88 mph changeup.
Trump Allies Promote Conspiracy Theories About the Assassination Attempt
Fight disinformation: Sign up for the free Mother Jones Daily newsletter and follow the news that matters. In the two-plus weeks since a gunman opened fire at Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, some details have emerged about the catastrophic security failure. The 20-year-old perpetrator, who wounded the former president and three people in the crowd, killing one, was on authorities’ radar for more than 90 minutes before he attacked. He eluded law enforcement agents at the rally site, eventually reaching an unsecured rooftop about 150 yards from where Trump spoke. He fired at least eight rounds from an AR-15 before being killed by a Secret Service counter-sniper.
Steelers Knew Early That Beanie Bishop Wasn’t Like Most UDFAs
In many ways, it’s not surprising that West Virginia cornerback Beanie Bishop was not selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. The 5-foot-9 cornerback is obviously undersized for his primary position, and was ranked 312th in his class by NFL Mock Draft Database — only 257 players get drafted.
Donte Jackson Confident Plenty More INTs To Come: ‘That’s What I’ve Been Known For’
The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired CB Donte Jackson this offseason to make plays, and he made the first of training camp. Off a poorly thrown ball by QB Justin Fields, he read the throw and broke coverage to make the interception. While it wasn’t necessarily highlight-reel material athletically, it showed his instincts, which he intends to bring to the defense.
