KILLBUCK − The Holmes County Sheriff's Office has released the name of a Killbuck man involved in a high-speed traffic chase that came into Coshocton County Tuesday evening.
A news release stated Caleb M. Johnson, 19, has been arrested and charged with felony fleeing and eluding of officers, unlawful restraint and was wanted on two outstanding warrants. According to the Holmes County Clerk of Courts, Johnson was charged in June with driving under a financial responsibility act suspension and a 12-point suspension. Johnson has numerous traffic infractions dating back to August 2023.
Johnson had a 17-year-old female in the vehicle with him whose name has not been released. Johnson is currently incarcerated in the Holmes County Jail, the release stated.
The sheriff's office said deputies were stationary shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on Ohio 83 in Clark, near the Coshocton County line. A blue Mazda was observed driving through the area onto County Road 19 from Ohio 83. Authorities determined the driver was Johnson, who had outstanding warrants, and the vehicle had a fake registration. A pursuit was initiated.
The Mazda entered Coshocton County on Ohio 83 and the Coshocton County Sherriff's Office joined the chase, the release said. The Mazda continued onto U.S. 36 and ran over deployed spike strips. This shredded tires, which eventually wore down to the rims. The vehicle slowed down and Coshocton deputies executed a maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop. Johnson was taken into custody and the female was released.
The pursuit went 28.75 miles, reached speeds of 90 mph and lasted about 23 minutes.
