Chris Kozlowski retires as Port Huron softball coach; Ryan Mullins will take over
PORT HURON — One of the longest-tenured high school softball coaches in the area has called it a career. Port Huron's Chris Kozlowski retired after 13 seasons last month. The Red Hawks went 151-142 under his watch, which included six winning seasons and a MAC Gold championship in 2013.

Memphis Police Seek Suspects in Armed Carjacking Outside Walgreens on Riverdale Road
Memphis has seen a surge in carjackings, and the Memphis Police Department is currently on the hunt for suspects involved in a recent armed carjacking incident. According to Action News 5, the event unfolded in the early hours of July 4th, outside a Walgreens located at 3670 Riverdale Road. The victim reported that while sitting in his 2019 Infiniti QX60, two armed individuals, after pulling up in a red sedan, carjacked him.
$1.5M resurfacing of M-19 kicking off Monday
Resurfacing work on M-19 from the city of Memphis to Interstate 69 in St. Clair County is slated to begin next week through the end of August. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the $1.5 million project will maintain two-way traffic throughout the work with single-lane closures implemented daily. In addition to resurfacing, it’ll address pavement markings and shoulder gravel.
These 2 St. Clair County beaches are closed due to E. coli
ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mich. – Two beaches in St. Clair County have been closed after testing found elevated levels of E. coli in the water. Chrysler Beach in Marysville and Holland Beach in Port Huron are under swimming advisories as of Thursday, July 11, 2024. Water samples will be collected at those beaches until E. coli test results are within the range deemed acceptable by the State of Michigan.
Reconstruction of Lapeer Ave. from 24th to 16th on tap for next year
PORT HURON — A busy section of Lapeer Avenue is slated for reconstruction next year under an engineering agreement OK’d by city officials this week. City Council members signed off on a $373,840 agreement with Rowe Professional Services on Monday for the project to rehab Lapeer between 16th and 24th streets.
Beaches in Port Huron, Marysville under swim advisory
Holland Beach in Port Huron and Chrysler Beach in Marysville were placed under a swim advisory on Thursday due to elevated presence of E. coli. The St. Clair County Health Department issued the advisory and the beaches have been closed for now. Water samples will be collected at these beaches until E. coli test results are within acceptable water quality range as advised by the state of Michigan.

Sea Cadets meet with director before archeology expedition
HARRISON TOWNSHIP — Ahead of an excursion to Lake Huron to search for remnants of World War II history, local Sea Cadets got to meet with the organization’s top executive. The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a U.S. Navy-sponsored organization that works to prepare young adults ages 13-17 with maritime skills in line with organizations like the Navy and United States Merchant Marine. Locally, the USNSCC’s Great Lakes Division operates out of Harrison Township with the Pride of Michigan, a converted 80-foot-long training ship that is currently equipped for research voyages and scuba diving. The Pride of Michigan was acquired in 1989.

Port Huron Area Schools is distributing free meals through its Summer Food Service Program. Macomb County man sentenced for shooting, killing his wife in 2022
(CBS DETROIT) - A 46-year-old Macomb County man who was found guilty of shooting and killing his wife in July 2022 was sentenced Wednesday. Matthew Louis Mollicone of Washington Township was sentenced to 86 months to 15 years for voluntary manslaughter, 12 to 40 years on charges of assault with intent to murder and two years to run consecutively for three counts of felony firearm.
