Pool at Kaukauna's renovated aquatic center to open Wednesday
KAUKAUNA (WLUK) -- 'Tis the sea-sun for swimming, and come Wednesday, the Kaukauna community can finally do so at its newly-renovated aquatic center. According to a Facebook post Tuesday from the Kaukauna Recreation Department, the pool at the Kaukauna Aquatic Center will open to guests Wednesday. It comes a few days after the splash pad opened.

The plaza built to honor African-American trails blazer Vel Phillips had it’s grand opening Friday. Mayor Cavalier Johnson and other city officials joined Phillip’s son Michael for the ribbon cutting ceremony. The plaza is located at 401 W. Wisconsin Ave.Michale Phillips who joined us last month to talk about the project again praised a public art installation that will be part of the plaza’s future. After graduating from Howard University, Vel Phillips attended University of Wisconsin Law school, becoming the first African American woman to graduate there. She and her husband opened a law firm. A longtime vacancy in the US District Court for the eastern District of Wisconsin may soon be filled by an attorney based in Green Bay. This morning, President Biden announced plans to nominate personal injury attorney Byron Browning Conway to the position. The vacancy was created in 2019 by the retirement of Judge William C. Greisbach pending Senate approval. Both Senator Tammy Baldwin and Senator Ron Johnson recommended Conway, along with one other attorney for the job last summer. The decision to nominate Conway comes more than a year after the President decided not to renominate Milwaukee Circuit Court Judge William Pocan after Johnson blocked Pocan’s nomination. Full Story.
