Here's where to watch fireworks for the Fourth of July in the Portland metro area
PORTLAND, Ore. — Fourth of July is just around the corner, and many are prepping to celebrate the holiday in and around the Rose City. Although fireworks are banned in Portland, there are still a couple cities teaming up with professionals to create a dazzling fireworks show. Here's a list of some of the major firework shows and Fourth of July celebrations in and around the Portland-Vancouver area:
Lack of resources restricts Portland's ability to fully enforce its homeless camping ban
PORTLAND, Ore. — Piles of woodchips and massive tree limbs line a residential street in Portland’s Lents neighborhood, and the radio blasts from a speaker. The man-made chaos is an attempt to deter homeless camps from setting up on Todd Littlefield's street. He’s the vice-chair of the neighborhood livability association and has been battling the crisis for years.
Another Portland outdoor pool closes, this one for an indeterminate amount of time
Temperatures are going up this week, and just as lines to get into Portland’s outdoor pools are about to get even longer, another city pool has closed. Pier Pool (9457 N. Bristol Ave.) is currently shut down “due to a significant water line failure,” Portland Parks and Recreation said in a press release late last week. No reopening date has been set as of Monday.
Customers ransacked Portland furniture warehouse after a ‘free’ sign was erected. Then the owner found out
Portland residents thought they'd stumbled onto the deal of a lifetime on Sunday - an entire warehouse of items, all free for the taking. In reality, the owner of the warehouse in the city’s northwest had no idea that people were picking over the property, KGW8 reports.Residents living near the warehouse watched as a crowd empty out the building, prompting one to report a mass burglary...

Exploring Portland middle housing at the NW Natural Street of Dreams
Today, many Oregonians face high housing costs because the supply of diverse housing is so low. For a variety of reasons, the construction of more traditional housing types like single-family homes and apartment complexes has remained the primary form for any new housing built in the last several decades. However, given the growing housing crisis, Oregon became the first state in the nation to re-legalize another form of housing, often called “Missing Middle Housing.” ...
