King City officials want residents to weigh in regarding a possible kayak launch access point along the Tualatin River near King City Community Park via a community survey .

“Currently, there is a small unmaintained wooden dock located south of the gravel parking lot at the park. The city is planning on working to improve that access point and make it easier and safer for folks to get to the river and enjoy it, and we need your feedback,” said an online posting of the project.

The survey asks such questions as to how often respondents access the Tualatin River and if they have a preference for a kayak launch with gangway, a small dock or a river trail.

Community members also can contact Max Carter, King City planner at mcarter@ci.king-city.or.us with any questions, comments or concerns about the proposal.

Meanwhile, Tigard parks officials are working to replace a deteriorating timber dock at Cook Family Park boat launch. The goal of that project is to improve the site so that canoe, kayak and paddle boarding enthusiasts with physical impairments can more easily access the water.

The Tualatin Riverkeepers, an organization that protects and restores the Tualatin River watershed, offer canoe, kayak and paddleboard rentals to use on the river. They are available at Tigard’s Cook Family Park and Hillsboro’s Rood Bridge Park.
