The majority of survey-takers who access the Tualatin River at King City Community Park said they support improving river access through the installation of a kayak launch with gangway in order to launch their kayak, canoe or paddleboard.

In a recent survey of a little more than 150 respondents, about 92% said they favored the city’s plans to improve river access.

Of those, 61% said the kayak launch was the best way to go. Coming in second as a sought-after amenity at the park was a river trail (19.5%), followed by a small dock (11.7%).

Only 7.8% of survey-takers said they didn’t want to see any changes at all.

“Currently, there is a small, unmaintained wooden dock located south of the gravel parking lot at the park. The city is planning on working to improve that access point and make it easier and safer for folks to get to the river and enjoy it, and we need your feedback,” a previous posting by the city stated.

Community members who have any additional comments, concerns or questions, can contact Max Carter, a King City planner, at mcarter@ci.king-city.or.us.

Conversation about changes to the King City dock come at the same time Tigard parks officials work to replace a deteriorating timber dock at Cook Family Park boat launch. The goal is to allow canoe, kayak and paddle boarding enthusiasts with physical impairments to access the water more easily.
