A Winston-Salem man has been arrested in connection with a string of bank robberies that occurred in King from 2020 to 2024.

Christopher Jerome Crumpton, 61, of Winter Brook Court, was charged with four counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon. Bond was set at $170,000 secured.

According to King Police Department Det. Michael Christian, the suspect is accused of using the same method at each robbery — passing note to a teller demanding cash and threatening that he had a weapon.

The four robberies were also similar in that the suspect did not brandish a weapon and that there were no injuries.

Three of the robberies occurred at First National Bank at 647 S. Main St., in King.

In 2020, $800 was stolen; in 2023, $1000 was stolen; and on April 5, 2024, $1,900 was stolen.

On April 26, 2024, $1,900 was stolen from Wells Fargo Bank at 701 S. Main St. in King.

Det. Christian said that Crumpton had been apprehended in connection with a Winston-Salem bank robbery and confessed to all four King incidences.

According to information provided by the Winston-Salem Police Department, Crumpton was arrested May 1 and charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with a reported bank robbery at Wells Fargo bank on Country Club Road.

The suspect in that case used the same note method and received an undisclosed amount of currency, according to the statement.

Crumpton was held without bond on that charge in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center, where he is still listed as an inmate under a $170,000 bond.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, which has been assisting, is still investigating the cases, and federal charges may be forthcoming, Christian said.
