Two Killed In Motorcycle Crash
On Saturday June 29, 2024 at 5:18 PM, the Porter County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of Smoke Rd and Division Rd for a SUV vs motorcycle crash. Two people were on the motorcycle at the time of the crash, one was pronounced deceased on scene and the other was transported to an area hospital and pronounced deceased, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Son Strangled Mom to Death in Indiana after Mom told Him to Get a Job: Authorities
An employee at Loyola University Chicago, who resides in Indiana, has given an eviction notice to her 19-year-old son. He allegedly caused her death by strangulation. According to online court records, Shanelle Burns, 43, filed an eviction notice against her son, Conner Kobold, now 20, on February 5. On that particular day, authorities in Valparaiso, Ind., received a report of an assault following multiple calls made to 911 by Kobold.
Police discover body of South Bend driver after report of fatal crash
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY — The St. Joseph County Police Department is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that killed a South Bend resident over the weekend. Officers were dispatched to the U.S. 31 Bypass and Indiana 2 interchange around 10 a.m. June 30, following the report of a fatal crash.

Valparaiso Police see movement within Ranks
The Valparaiso Police Department will see three promoted and two others laterally transferred from within their ranks on July 1, 2024The movement will include the promotion of Joe Cowser to Lieutenant, as well as the promotions of John Cordova and Alex Sprowl to Sergeant. These promotions will retain these officers in the Patrol Division, while current Patrol Lieutenant, Sean Kostelnik will be assigned as the Community Services Officer and current Patrol Sergeant, Peter Castillo, who will be assigned to the investigations Division.
North Judson, Hamlet Fire Departments Respond to Structure Fires
Two structure fires were called into the Starke County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center over the weekend. The North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department was called to a fire at 2460 W. State Road 10 in North Judson Saturday, June 29 in the afternoon where firefighters were able to take quick action to knock down the fire. Fire Chief Todd Jackson told WKVI News that there was 65 percent damage to the structure and the fire remains under investigation. The home owner suffered minor injuries, as well as another individual working at the residence. Both were transported from the scene by Starke County EMS.

Knox Board of Public Works Hears Update from Police Department
The Knox Board of Public Works heard an update from the Knox City Police Department during their meeting last week. Knox City Chief of Police Chad Dulin announced his department responded to 721 calls during the month of May. He informed the board, Brandon Pittman had put in his resignation on June 17. He went on to say, their staff is currently two officers short and are in the process of hiring. He stated they have eight applications that will be going through the necessary testing for comprehension and a physical on July 1, before moving forward with background checks.
