KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Kingsport community showed up for the 3rd annual Red, White and Boom Independence Day celebration on Saturday.

The night is meant as a final celebration following the holiday weekend.

Emily Thompson, director of special events, said the city has taken its Independence Day celebration to the “next level” and expanded the venue.

“We’ve kind of created a venue here down at Centennial Park to allow for a lot more people to join us,” Thompson said.

A big hit at Red, White, and Boom is the live music. This year, the city welcomed three bands on stage: Donnie and the Dryheavers, The Cleverly’s, and the Marshall Tucker Band. Each group brought a different audience to the event.

“There’s music [and] we like listening to live music and bands and stuff,” said attendee Joan Winkler.

Attendee Jim Livingston said he came out Saturday night to hear the Marshall Tucker Band.

“Y’all…y’all done it,” said Gary Doug, lead vocalist of the Marshall Tucker Band. “South Carolina boy coming up here having a good time.”

It would not be a Red, White and Boom celebration without a fireworks show to conclude the night.

Many attendees anticipated the sparkling display, especially kids. Attendee Anna Lawson said she” just likes seeing the different colors and stuff.”
