(WJHL) – All three contests involving Appalachian League West squads came down to the late innings on Sunday night.

In Kingsport, the Axmen held a 4-0 advantage into the fifth frame, until visiting Bristol evened things up, 4-4. However, the home squad locked down in the extra-innings tiebreaker to claim a victory.

Devan Zirwas drove home a pair of runs for the Axmen in the win, while the top three hitters in the State Liners lineup each contributed an RBI.

In Greeneville, the Flyboys capitalized on some River Riders miscues in a 3-2 home victory.

James Woody’s sacrifice fly and Leandro Perez’s RBI single put Elizabethton in front, 2-0. But, a handful of throwing errors and a Brodie Johnston triple had the game tied back up, 2-2, in the third inning.

Johnston would score on a wild pitch in the fifth frame to take the lead they would not relinquish.
