KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Kingsport Police Department (KPD) is investigating a serious crash on John B. Dennis Highway on Friday morning.

Two Quillen VA Medical Center officials temporarily reassigned amid investigation

The KPD stated in a news release that officers responded to the crash on South John B. Dennis Highway just south of Fort Henry Drive around 4:45 a.m.

Officers found that a 2013 blue Ford Focus had been heading south on the highway when it struck a bridge railing on the left side of the road. The reasons behind the crash were not known as of Friday afternoon.

Police report the driver of the Ford then overcorrected and hit a 2009 gray Mazda 3 on the driver’s side.

The Ford then reportedly went off the right side of the road and hit a tree, causing it to catch fire.

The driver of the Focus was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Mazda was not injured, according to the KPD.

The crash is still under investigation.
