Mets' Pete Alonso makes trade-deadline wish clear
During his All-Star Game media availability on Monday, first baseman Pete Alonso made it clear he wants to remain with the New York Mets beyond the July 30 MLB trade deadline."I’d love to stay and I don’t want to get traded," Alonso directly said, as shared by Alex Smith of SNY. "I love [New York]. It’s home."Alonso remains on track to reach free agency after the season and repeatedly was the subject of trade rumors as the Mets floundered in May. However, the Amazins entered the All-Star break at 49-46 on the campaign and in possession of a wild-card playoff berth.The...

Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo All-Star snubs look even worse after Pete Alonso's dud HR Derby showing
Well, that couldn't have gone much worse. Pete Alonso, the betting favorite to win his third Home Run Derby, hit just 12 home runs and was the first player eliminated. What makes Alonso's performance so much worse is that his appearance in the Derby is the only justifiable reason that he was named an NL All-Star. Alonso had said he would only participate in the Home Run Derby if he was an All-Star. This certainly is not what MLB had envisioned. In fact, if MLB knew Alonso would put up this kind of performance, there's a good chance they would've just chosen someone else to participate in the derby and give his All-Star spot to another New York Mets player.

It was not difficult to divine a pattern among the draft picks made by the Yankees in the first two days of the MLB draft. They arrived in Texas to stockpile pitchers—hard-throwing college pitchers, no matter their ERAs or troubles with control. Their first pick, in fact, was Ben Hess of Alabama, who wrapped the 2024 season with a 5.80 ERA and a walk rate of 4.6 per 9 innings.
