Greetings Readers! I Hope this day has been gracious towards you and yours!

An Indonesian family is devastated after learning the Matriach of their family has been devoured by a 14ft. beast of a crocodile. Apparently, the grandmother had gone out early to do some chores and such. She had planned to return home early because of her concerns in reference to the possibility of the river rising. How many of us leave the house to live life with every intention of returning. This grandmother never returned home. Take nothing for granted my friends.

Halima Rahakbauw, 54, was by the body of water washing up when the 14ft. predator sprung up and dragged her in, biting off two arms and a leg. The horror occurred along the Wali River in Maluku, with locals then spotting the beast with a leg hanging out of its mouth.

It appears the grandmother was dragged into the water before the deadly reptile completed it’s kill. Horrified witness Ali Rahangmetan said he was crossing Wali Bridge when he spotted a disturbance in the water.

The witness gave a detailed account of what happened, Ali said:

“At around 10:30 am, I saw someone swimming, but I couldn’t see their body. Only their legs were visible. To make sure, I went out of my car and finally saw that it was a human being eaten by a crocodile. I couldn’t tell if it was a man or a woman. Only the legs and intestines of the person were visible.”

Ali said he called the cops, who launched an urgent search for Halima, who was already reported missing by family.

Police scoured the river banks before catching the female crocodile at 12:37pm local time. It’s reported that the 14ft. predator was still devouring the body before cops killed the beast, shooting it dead. Villagers then dragged the body back to the local town, cutting open it's stomach to find human remains.

One of Halima’s relatives, Jamia Seknun, said the grandmother had gone down to the river earlier to collect shellfish. It is believed she would have cooked the fish for a meal before heading back to the river to clean her dishes.

    Halima never came back.

Jamia relived the movements of her grandmother earlier that day:

“She left early in the morning because she was afraid the river level would rise by noon. Later, my mother screamed that a crocodile had eaten someone. I didn’t know who it was at first, but I had a feeling it was her.”

Rahakbauw’s neighbor, Rustam Ilyas, told local reporters that relatives and friends started a search when she failed to return home. After spotting a sandal and a body part in the river, villagers reported the incident to police who killed the reptile.

“The villagers had to cut open the crocodile’s belly to remove some of the victim’s body parts,” a local police officer, who requested anonymity as he was not authorized to speak on the matter, told AFP Wednesday.

“The crocodile was quite big, around four meters (12 feet) long,” neighbor Ilyas told AFP.

Historically, the Indonesian islands are known to be home to 14 different types of crocodiles that regularly attack and kill humans. This species is a flourishing population that comfortability thrive in the region’s climate. It is believed they are moving inland closer to villages due to the abundance of fishing, which has decreased the crocodiles’ food supply.

Reportedly, the crocodiles have also lost their habitat as coastal areas transform into farmland. Indonesia is still a developing country, therefore the locals continue to use rivers for bathing, cleaning and fishing, increasing the possibility of attacks.
