High school football schedules for the 2024 season in Kitsap County and North Mason

    By Jeff Graham, Kitsap Sun,

Roughly six weeks away from the start of the 2024 high school football season, here's a chance for readers to look at team-by-team schedules for West Sound's nine squads.

Just a reminder: there's a few changes from last season worth noting, including league alterations for the two largest high schools in Kitsap County: South Kitsap and Central Kitsap.

The South Puget Sound League 4A now features two six-team football divisions. Only games played within the division will count as "league" contests in the standings. South Kitsap will play in the North Division and compete against Curtis, Emerald Ridge, Puyallup, Rogers and Sumner, while the South Division consists of Bethel, Bonney Lake, Graham-Kapowsin, Olympia, Spanaway Lake and Yelm. Week 9 will involve division crossover games that will help determine playoff berths.

For Central Kitsap, the Puget Sound League 3A now replaces the defunct South Sound Conference 3A. Like the SPSL, the Puget Sound League will feature two six-team divisions and only divisional matchups will count toward the league standings. There will also be Week 9 crossovers for playoff qualification purposes. Central Kitsap will play in the Narrows Division against Bellarmine Prep, Gig Harbor, Lincoln, Mount Tahoma and Silas, while the Nisqually Division consists of Capital, Lakes, North Thurston, Peninsula, River Ridge and Timberline.

There's also a new look to the Nisqually League 1A , where Klahowya has been a member since 2021. Kingston has moved from the Olympic League 2A to the Nisqually League in football only. There are a couple hurdles the Buccaneers would need to clear to qualify for the playoffs, which would still be in 2A. Kingston needs to finish in the top two in the Nisqually League standings and not lose to any Olympic League teams on its nonleague schedule (the Bucs play North Mason in Week 2).

Now, onto the schedules. Week 1 arrives a tad later than normal this season simply due to the way the calendar falls. First games are Thursday, Sept. 5 for South Kitsap, Bainbridge and Kingston, and Friday, Sept. 6 for Central Kitsap, Bremerton, North Kitsap, North Mason, Olympic and Klahowya. As has been the case in recent years, there will be the occasional Thursday or Saturday game since weekly schedules are built around referee availability.

The regular season for most teams concludes Oct. 31-Nov. 2 and the playoffs commence the following week (Nov. 7-8).
